What hot tub removal involves

Hot tub removal and disposal is not a two-person, Saturday-afternoon job. These units weigh anywhere from 500 to 900 pounds, sit on ground-level slabs or deck platforms, and are wired directly into your electrical panel. Getting one out safely takes the right tools, the right process, and a crew that's done it before. Junk Genius has. With 1,987 Google reviews averaging 4.9 stars and about 15 years hauling in the Twin Cities Metro, we're the crew that shows up prepared. Call (612) 444-5865 for a free, no-pressure quote and same-week scheduling.

The job starts with a 30-minute courtesy call before our crew arrives, so you're not stuck watching the driveway. On-site, we assess the unit, quote you a flat fee based on volume, and get to work. That means draining, disconnecting electrical and plumbing, cutting the shell into sections if needed, loading every piece, and sweeping the area clean before we leave. What drives cost up is access: a spa buried in a tight backyard, bolted to a deck, or blocked by fencing takes longer and costs more than one sitting open on a patio. We won't quote you a number over the phone without seeing it first. Every job is different, contact Junk Genius for an accurate estimate.

Why It's Not DIY

What Makes Hot Tub Disposal So Difficult

It's not the weight alone. It's everything attached to that weight.

The shell is fiberglass or acrylic. It won't fit in a standard dumpster without being cut. Underneath it, you've got foam insulation panels, copper wiring, a pump, a heater, and a jet manifold, none of which the city will take at the curb. Older units often have 240-volt dedicated circuits that need to be safely capped before anything moves. Skip that step and you've got a real hazard. We've seen homeowners try to muscle a spa out with friends and a come-along. It doesn't go well. The deck suffers, the shell cracks, and the wiring gets yanked without being properly disconnected. Our crew handles every piece of this. We do household junk removal every day, but spa removal is a specific skill set and we treat it that way.

How It Works

Our Hot Tub Haul Away Process, Step by Step

  1. 01

    Schedule and Show Up

Call us or submit the online form. We'll get you on the calendar for same-day or next-day service. You'll get a 30-minute heads-up call when the crew is on the way. No four-hour windows.

  2. 02

    Quote, Disconnect, Dismantle

The crew assesses the spa, quotes a flat fee on the spot, and gets to work. That means draining remaining water, safely capping electrical connections, and cutting the shell into sections for removal.

  3. 03

    Haul It and Clean Up

Every piece gets loaded, shell sections, insulation, pump, wiring, cabinetry. We sweep the area before we leave. You're left with a clean pad and an open backyard, not a pile of debris.

Responsible Disposal

Where Your Old Hot Tub Actually Goes

Most haulers take the fastest route to the nearest landfill. We don't do that. Junk Genius follows what we call our Four R's: Remove, Re-use, Recycle, and Reduce. When we dismantle your spa, we sort the components. Copper wiring and metal fixtures go to certified scrap facilities. The wooden cabinet framing gets routed to lumber recyclers. Acrylic and fiberglass panels are handled through specialty recyclers where accepted. The foam insulation and pump assembly? Properly separated and disposed of according to local regulations. We donate and recycle as much as we can whenever possible. That number isn't a marketing line. It's the operating standard Mike Reimann built this company around back about 15 years ago, and it hasn't changed. You can check our license: MN #3772090-2. We're accountable to it.

Why Junk Genius

What Sets This Crew Apart from the Franchise Options

10% Price Beat Guarantee

Bring us a written estimate from a competitor and we'll beat it by 10 percent. We're not the cheapest option in the market. We're the best value, and we can back that up.

Owner-Operated for about 15 years

Mike Reimann's name is on the truck. When you call, you're not reaching a national call center. You're calling a crew that's been hauling in the Twin Cities Metro for about 15 years and has nearly 2,000 reviews to prove it.

Flat-Fee, Volume-Based Pricing

You pay for the space your hot tub takes in our truck. No hidden fuel surcharges, no surprise labor fees. The quote you get on-site is the number you pay.

Certified and Licensed Crew

Our crews carry MSW Hauling, Waste Management Safety, and Recycling Management certifications. MN License #3772090-2. Not every hauler can say that, and fewer can show you the number.

Full-Service, One Call

We don't just haul the shell. Disconnection, dismantling, loading, cleanup. The whole job is one call. You don't need an electrician to cap the wiring first and a hauler second. We handle it.

Same-Week Scheduling, Seven Days

We run seven days a week, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. If that spa needs to go before the weekend, call us Monday. We'll make it happen. Need it gone Saturday? We're working.

Frequently asked questions

How long does hot tub removal actually take once the crew arrives?
Most spa removals take between one and three hours on-site, depending on access and how the unit is installed. A freestanding spa on an open patio goes faster than one bolted to a deck with fencing on three sides. We'll give you a realistic time estimate after we see the setup. The 30-minute courtesy call before arrival means you're not waiting around all morning.
Do I need to drain the hot tub before you arrive?
It helps, but it's not required. If there's water still in the tub, we drain it on-site before we start dismantling. A full spa can hold 300 to 500 gallons, and moving that weight without draining first isn't something we'd do anyway. If you can drain it ahead of time using the spa's built-in drain valve, it speeds up the job and can reduce the final cost slightly.
What happens to the electrical wiring and plumbing connections when you remove a hot tub?
Our crew safely caps the electrical connections before anything moves. Most spas run on a dedicated 240-volt circuit with a GFCI disconnect. We don't pull the wiring out of the wall, but we do ensure it's safely isolated so there's no live line exposed after we leave. We recommend having a licensed electrician permanently remove the circuit if you're not replacing the spa.
Can you remove a hot tub that's on a deck or installed inside a gazebo?
Yes, though it adds complexity. Spas installed in gazebos or on enclosed decks often require partial disassembly of the structure to create a removal path. We assess the situation on-site and quote accordingly. We don't do structural demolition as part of the standard removal, but we do cut the spa shell into sections to fit through whatever opening is available.
How much does hot tub removal and disposal cost?
We give you an on-site price based primarily on how much material we take away. Tight access, deck installations, and significant water weight all factor in. We don't publish a fixed rate because a spa in an open backyard is a different job from one lodged against a fence on a raised platform. Every job is different, contact Junk Genius for an accurate estimate.
Do you recycle the components from a hot tub, or does it all go to the landfill?
We sort the components after removal. Copper wiring and metal parts go to scrap recyclers. Wood cabinet framing goes to lumber recyclers. Acrylic and fiberglass sections are handled through specialty processors where those materials are accepted. The pump and motor assembly gets properly separated. We donate and recycle as much as we can whenever possible. That's been our standard for about 15 years.
More questions (1)Fewer questions
What's the difference between hiring Junk Genius and renting a dumpster for hot tub removal?
A dumpster doesn't dismantle the spa, drain it, disconnect the electrical, or sort the components. You'd still need to cut the shell into sections, figure out the wiring, and load it yourself. Most dumpster rental contracts also prohibit certain materials like foam insulation. Full-service removal with Junk Genius means we do every step.
