What furniture removal involves

The easiest way to get rid of furniture is to call a crew that actually shows up, handles the heavy stuff, and doesn't leave a scratch on your doorframe on the way out. That's what our furniture removal service is built for. Whether it's a sectional that won't fit through the stairwell, a bedroom set left behind after an estate cleanout, or a home office worth of desks you don't need anymore, Junk Genius has hauled it all. We've been doing this for about 15 years, we're licensed in Minnesota (License #3772090-2), and we've earned 4.9 stars across 1,987 Google reviews from real Twin Cities customers. Call (612) 444-5865 and we can often get you on the schedule the same week.

Our furniture removal service covers the whole job: we carry it out, load it, and handle responsible disposal, donations to local partners like Bridging Minnesota when items are in good shape, recycling when they're not. We donate and recycle as much as we can whenever possible. Pricing is volume-based, meaning you pay for the space your items take up in the truck, not a flat rate that punishes small jobs or a per-item rate that punishes big ones. Costs vary widely depending on item count, size, access conditions (think tight staircases or elevator buildings), and how much labor is involved. Every job is different, contact Junk Genius - Minneapolis for an accurate estimate.

What We Haul

If It's Furniture and It's in Your Way, We Can Probably Take It

Couches, dressers, mattresses, dining sets, patio furniture, office chairs: the list is long.

Sofas, Sectionals, and Recliners

The classics. Couch removal is one of our most-requested jobs, and for good reason. These things are heavy, awkward, and impossible to move solo. We've pulled couches out of basements, third-floor apartments, and narrow lakeside cabins. You point; we do the rest.

Mattresses and Box Springs

Mattresses can't just go to the curb. Most haulers won't take them without a surcharge. We handle mattress removal and disposal properly, including recycling when available, no mystery fees.

Dressers, Wardrobes, and Bedroom Sets

Big, heavy, and full of corners that catch on walls. We protect your doorframes and floors, disassemble when needed, and get it out without turning your hallway into a demolition zone.

Dining Sets, Desks, and Bookcases

Dining tables that seat eight aren't going out in one easy carry. Neither are solid-wood desks or floor-to-ceiling bookshelves. Our crews are built for the tough shifts that come with big, awkward pieces.

Patio and Outdoor Furniture

Old deck furniture, plastic chairs, metal fire pit tables, outdoor pieces rust, crack, and wear out. They're also a pain to dispose of properly. We haul them and sort out recycling on our end.

Office and Commercial Furniture

Office buildout going a different direction? Tenants left a full suite of cubicle furniture? We handle commercial furniture pickups from retail spaces, offices, and property managers turning over units.

How It Works

Three Steps From Cluttered to Cleared

We keep things simple and transparent, no robots, no runaround.

  1. 01

    Call or Book Online

Reach a real person at (612) 444-5865. Not a call center. Tell us what you've got, where it is, and when works for you. We'll confirm availability and give you a free, no-obligation quote based on volume.

  2. 02

We Show Up and Carry It Out

Our crew arrives on time, does a walkthrough, and gets straight to work. We navigate tight staircases, elevator buildings, and narrow doorways. We protect your walls and floors. You don't lift a thing.

  3. 03

    We Haul, Donate, or Recycle

After we load up, we handle the rest. Usable furniture goes to partners like Bridging Minnesota or Habitat for Humanity ReStore. What can't be donated gets recycled or responsibly disposed of. We keep you informed every step of the way.

Eco-Conscious Disposal

We've Been Hauling Green Since Before It Was Cool

Junk Genius was built around the Four R's: Remove, Re-use, Recycle, and Reduce. That's not a marketing line. It's how we've operated since Mike Reimann founded this company about 15 years ago. Sixty to seventy percent of what leaves our truck gets donated or recycled, not dumped. For furniture specifically, our go-to local partner is Bridging Minnesota, a Twin Cities nonprofit that places donated furniture directly into homes for families in need. We also work with Habitat for Humanity ReStore and other local organizations. If your couch still has life in it, we'd rather it go to someone who needs it than to a landfill. If it doesn't, we sort it for recycling. We won't just dump everything in one load and call it done. That's not how we operate. Want to know more about our approach? Built for Real Life

Tight Staircases, Elevator Buildings, Awkward Layouts: We Handle It

Apartments and Condos

Elevator scheduling, narrow hallways, parking restrictions. We've dealt with all of it across the Twin Cities metro. We coordinate logistics so you don't have to manage a moving puzzle.

Multi-Level Homes and Basements

A couch in the basement or a dresser in the attic isn't a problem we walk away from. Our crews use professional-grade equipment and work as a team to move heavy, bulky items safely without tearing up walls or floors.

Estates, Moves, and Cleanouts

Life changes fast, downsizing, inheriting a property, clearing out a rental after a tenant leaves. Our house and garage cleanout experience means we can handle a full property's worth of furniture in a single visit, not a multi-week ordeal.

Who Calls Us

Furniture Removal Situations We See Every Week

Moving and Downsizing

Not everything makes the trip to the next place. Call us before the moving truck arrives and we'll clear out what isn't coming with you, no last-minute scramble.

Estate and Inherited Properties

Clearing out a loved one's home is hard enough without figuring out what to do with three bedrooms of furniture. We work efficiently and respectfully, and we'll do our best to donate usable pieces to give them a second life.

Remodeling and Redecorating

New furniture arrived and the old stuff is stacked in the garage? We remove it fast so you're not storing yesterday's decor while you enjoy today's. Check out why winter is a great time for a home cleanout if you're planning ahead.

Landlords and Property Managers

Tenants leave behind furniture more often than you'd think. We help property managers turn over units fast so you're not losing rent days to a staging problem. Storage unit cleanouts are also on the menu when that becomes the issue.

about 15 years Hauling Furniture the Right Way

Mike Reimann's name is on the truck. We're not a call center or a franchise that subcontracts your job to a crew you've never met.
Junk Genius was founded about 15 years ago by Mike Reimann, a former professional hockey player and NCAA National Championship team member. Mike Reimann, co-owner and Chief Junk Officer, has helped grow the crew to serve over 100,000 Minnesotans. We're licensed in Minnesota (License #3772090-2), and our crews carry MSW Hauling, Waste Management Safety, and Recycling Management certifications. We're a living-wage employer. We don't subcontract. Whoever answers your call is connected to the same crew that shows up at your door.

Common Questions

Furniture Removal Questions We Hear All the Time

How do I get rid of a piece of furniture?
You've got a few options. Donation centers like Bridging Minnesota or Habitat for Humanity ReStore accept furniture in good condition, but you'll need to haul it there yourself. Curbside pickup works in some municipalities, but not for bulky items like sectionals or mattresses. The fastest option for most people is calling a full-service furniture removal crew like ours, we come to you, carry it out, and handle the donation or disposal. Call (612) 444-5865 and we can often get you on the schedule within the week.
Where can I dispose of furniture for free?
Free disposal options are limited and conditional. Some nonprofits will pick up furniture for free if it's in good shape and fits their needs, Bridging Minnesota is the best local option in the Twin Cities. Municipal bulk pickup programs exist but run on fixed schedules and have item restrictions. If your furniture doesn't qualify or the timing doesn't work, a professional removal service is typically the most reliable route. We do offer free estimates, so you'll know the cost upfront before committing.
What's the cheapest way to remove furniture?
Doing it yourself is technically the cheapest. If you have a truck, a helper, a destination that accepts the item, and a few hours. Most people don't have all four. Renting a truck, paying dump fees, and losing a Saturday often costs more than a professional pickup when you add it up. Our volume-based pricing means small jobs don't get hit with inflated flat rates. If you want a real number to compare, just call us for a free estimate.
What is the easiest way to get rid of furniture?
Call a crew that handles everything from carry-out to disposal without you lifting a thing. That's literally what we do. You point at what needs to go, we carry it through whatever doorways and staircases are in the way, load it, and take it from there. We navigate tight apartments, multi-level homes, and storage units. You don't need to disassemble anything, rent anything, or drive anywhere.
Do you donate furniture instead of dumping it?
Yes, and it's built into our process, not an afterthought. Bridging Minnesota is our primary furniture-specific charity partner in the Twin Cities. We also work with Habitat for Humanity ReStore and other local nonprofits. If your items are in donatable condition, we prioritize that route. For items that can't be donated, we sort for recycling. We donate and recycle as much as we can whenever possible.
Can you remove furniture from a second or third floor apartment?
Absolutely. Tight staircases, shared elevators, and narrow hallways are a normal Tuesday for our crew. We use professional-grade moving equipment and always work in two-person teams on heavy or oversized pieces. We protect your walls and floors during the process. If there are specific building logistics to coordinate, like elevator booking windows or parking restrictions, let us know when you call and we'll plan around it.
More questions (1)Fewer questions
What types of furniture can't you take?
We can take the vast majority of household and office furniture. Items we can't haul include anything containing hazardous materials, some older furniture with lead paint or asbestos components, for example, requires specialized disposal we don't handle. If you're unsure whether something qualifies, call us and describe it. We'd rather tell you upfront than show up and have to leave an item behind.
